The cheapest help desk software with voice support, ranked for a 3-tech team

The cheapest help desk software with voice support, ranked for a 3-tech team

2026-07-20

“Cheapest” only means something once you define “with voice support”

Every help desk vendor has a cheap-looking number on its homepage. Almost none of those numbers include a working phone line. Voice is usually gated behind a higher tier, sold as a separate product, or missing outright — so “cheapest help desk software with voice support” isn’t really one search, it’s two: cheapest ticketing, and cheapest way to bolt a phone onto it. Vendors price those independently, which is exactly why the sticker price on a pricing page rarely matches what you’d actually pay.

This piece answers the question directly: for a small team that needs both a help desk and a phone that a customer can actually call, what does each option cost, checked against the vendors’ own live pricing pages today, 2026-07-20?

The method: one team size, one bar for “voice”

To make the numbers comparable, every price below is for the same scenario:

Where a vendor’s page includes true per-minute or overage charges, that’s noted separately — those don’t show up in the sticker total but do show up on the bill.

The leaderboard

Rank Vendor (voice-capable tier) Monthly cost, 3 techs What you get Verified
1 LiveAgent, Medium Business $57/mo ($19/agent) Ticketing + “Call center & IVR” native to the plan LiveAgent pricing, live 2026-07-20
2 Freshdesk Growth + Freshcaller Growth $102/mo ($34/agent) + per-minute Ticketing (Growth) plus a second product (Freshcaller Growth) for calling Freshdesk pricing, Freshcaller pricing, live 2026-07-20
3 Zendesk, Suite Team $165/mo ($55/agent) Ticketing + telephony bundled in one plan, but only from Suite Team up Zendesk pricing, live 2026-07-20
— Zoho Desk, Professional ₹1,400/user/month (page geolocated to INR) Telephony only via external provider integration, from Professional up Zoho Desk pricing, live 2026-07-20
— osTicket / FreeScout (self-hosted) $0 software, but no native voice at any price You’d still need to buy and wire in a separate calling tool osTicket editions, FreeScout, live 2026-07-20

A few things worth unpacking before you act on that table.

LiveAgent’s $19/agent price is promotional, not the list price

LiveAgent’s own pricing page shows Medium Business as “$29 $19 per month billed annually” — the $29 is the plan’s regular annual rate, $19 is a live promotional discount as of today (LiveAgent pricing, verified live 2026-07-20). At $29, the 3-tech total becomes $87/mo — still cheaper than Freshdesk+Freshcaller, but the gap narrows. Promotional pricing on any vendor’s site can change or expire without notice; check the live page before you budget against it, not this article.

Freshdesk’s $102/mo isn’t the real ceiling

Freshcaller’s Growth tier includes 2,000 incoming minutes per month, then charges per-minute beyond that at rates the pricing page doesn’t disclose inline — it links out to a separate call-rates page (Freshcaller pricing, verified live 2026-07-20). A 3-tech shop fielding steady call volume can blow through 2,000 minutes in a normal month, at which point $102/mo becomes a floor, not a total. It’s also two separate products with two separate admin panels and two separate outage histories to track.

Zendesk’s number is the cleanest, and also the highest

Zendesk bundles ticketing and telephony into a single plan starting at Suite Team, so there’s no second product to add — but that plan is $55/agent/month, nearly 3x Support Team’s $19 entry price, specifically because voice is the feature that forces the upgrade (Zendesk pricing, verified live 2026-07-20).

Zoho Desk and the currency problem

Zoho Desk’s pricing page geolocated to India during this check and displayed Professional — the first tier with telephony-provider integration — at ₹1,400/user/month, with a visible currency switcher offering USD among other options but no USD figure rendered in the fetched content (Zoho Desk pricing, verified live 2026-07-20). Rather than guess at a conversion, check the page directly from your own region before comparing it to the dollar prices above — the ranking table intentionally leaves Zoho unranked against the others for this reason.

Self-hosted isn’t actually free once voice is the requirement

osTicket’s open-source edition and FreeScout are both genuinely $0 to run, and neither pretends otherwise. But neither has native inbound calling: osTicket’s “phone support” listing refers to its own paid support channel, not a product feature, and FreeScout’s phone functionality is call logging via a paid module, not answering (osTicket editions, FreeScout, verified live 2026-07-20). To hit this article’s bar for “voice support” on either one, you’re adding a separate telephony tool and, likely, hosting costs — which erases most of the $0 appeal.

Why the cheapest sticker price and the cheapest real bill aren’t the same thing

Three patterns showed up across every vendor in the table above, and they’re worth checking for on any option you’re evaluating, including ones not listed here:

  1. Per-agent pricing multiplies. A $19/agent difference looks small until you’re at 8 technicians, where it’s $152/month — every comparison here should be re-run at your actual headcount, not just 3.
  2. Voice is frequently a second bill. Freshcaller (Freshdesk), and any “integrate with a telephony provider” language (Zoho Desk), means a second vendor relationship, a second invoice, and a second thing that can go down independently of your ticketing tool.
  3. Included-minutes cliffs are real costs that don’t show up in the monthly total. Any plan with an incoming-minutes allowance (Freshcaller’s tiers, for instance) has an implicit second price once you exceed it — ask for that number before you sign up, not after your first overage bill.

A short checklist before you commit to “cheapest”

Where ITSM lands on this list

ITSM’s free tier is 2 seats at $0 with instant self-serve signup; Basic is $29/mo flat with 3 seats included ($5/mo per additional seat), and the AI phone agent is a paid add-on on top of that — it isn’t bundled free into any tier, so it belongs in the same “what does voice cost on top” comparison as everything above. For a 3-tech team on Basic, that’s $29/mo for ticketing before the phone add-on is priced in, which we haven’t published a flat number for here because it depends on call volume — check https://itsupport.aramagio.com directly for current add-on pricing before comparing it against the totals above.

Honest note: ITSM is a small product with no public customers yet and a free tier that’s worth trying before you commit real budget to any option on this list, including ours.
